Austin, TX (August 4, 2016) — The Texas Academy of General Dentistry (TAGD) is pleased to announce that Radina Petkova, DDS, FAGD, of Dallas, received the association’s Fellowship Award during the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) 2016 annual meeting on July 16, 2016, in Boston.
The AGD Fellowship Award is presented to dentists who seek to provide the highest quality dental care by remaining current in their profession. To accomplish this goal, Dr. Petkova completed 500 hours of dental continuing education, passed a comprehensive written exam and fulfilled three years of continuous membership in the AGD – truly an impressive feat at the young age of 29. TAGD Fellows understand that providing beautiful smiles and excellent oral health for their patients are the result of going above and beyond basic requirements.
“We are proud to honor Dr. Petkova for her commitment in reaching this lofty goal,” says AGD Immediate Past President W. Mark Donald, DMD, MAGD. “She has distinguished herself professionally among her peers and is a role model for both her fellow dentists and the Dallas community.”
Dr. Petkova, born and raised in Asenovgrad, Bulgaria, moved to Dallas at the age of 14. She graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry in 2012 and as a result of being on the Dean’s Honor List each year in dental school she achieved Dean’s Cumulative Honor List the year of her graduation. Dr. Petkova currently practices dentistry at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham, Texas.
“I was impressed when I was told that Dr. Petkova had achieved Fellowship status in the AGD, truly going above and beyond the call of duty,” said Garth Griffiths, DDS, ScM, MS, Dr. Petkova’s academic mentor and current adjunct assistant professor at the Baylor College of Dentistry Periodontics Department.
Dr. Petkova demonstrates her dedication to dentistry as a member of numerous dental organizations including AGD, TAGD, Dallas AGD, American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Dallas County Dental Society and Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. She has also volunteered her time and services to Texas Mission of Mercy, a mobile dental clinic to provide care to uninsured Texans.
The Texas Academy of General Dentistry’s mission is to help general dentists to succeed. It is the only association that exclusively represents the needs and interests of general dentists who are the primary care providers for patients of all ages and are responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, management, and overall coordination of services related to patients’ oral health needs.
